I'd go from Honolulu, HI to Seattle, WA to see my favorite performer

28 06 2009

We traveled to Seattle, Washington to see Dubtribe Soundsystem in 2005. It's probably not the furthest I would travel, but it worked out great. It was great timing because we saw some old friends, met some new ones, and got to see a band we really, really like, on their "farewell" tour, which they are not performing together anymore. I think it was totally worth it!

I'm saving up for a MacBook Pro.

Macbook Pro

I'm saving up for a new MacBook Pro. It's tempting to buy a cheaper computer, mostly because I can get it sooner – but I want one with good enough specs that it will last a couple of years. The last time I bought a laptop was 6 years ago, so I expect to keep using my next laptop well past the "expected" life. I think the hardest part about saving is cultivating patience, because I have very little!

Georgiana, Duchess of Devonshire is long, but it's worth the read

28 06 2009

This book is the story of entire life, as reconstructed from primary sources – personal letters and correspondence and newspapers from the era. It is painstakingly researched and fascinating because it gives a rare glimpse into the real life of a noble woman in England in the 18th century. It's also fascinating to contrast the status and opportunities for women in those times, as compared to the Victorian era which followed, and of course as compared to today. The attention to detail in this book is impeccable, but never dull as the author includes numerous anecdotes and stories which give the reader a real sense of the time.

Gimme five minutes with Britney Spears

Girl! #1- Get the heck out of L.A. You write Fed Ex's check's, he can follow you. And don't go back. #2- Go back to school. It doesn't matter what for, and it doesn't need to be full time, but you'll feel empowered, and at least have some fancy book smarts to strike back with when people call you dumb. #3- Don't worry, no one will forget you if you move out of L.A. – but they will forget where you buy peanut butter, what brand of toilet paper you like, and how often you get your hair extensions replaced. And trust me, that's a GOOD thing. ;)

This boombox is just taking up space

27 04 2009

There are a lot of things in my house that don't get used – but I don't think that makes them "useless" – maybe just useless to me. My 3rd gen iPod which I've kept around for the past 3 years, expecting to hack it with Rockbox, is pretty useless right now, since I haven't touched it for years. The most useless gadget in my house right now is probably a $30 iPod boombox I bought from Wal-Mart. It reads the iPod fine, but the speakers are completely blown. Recycle bin, here it comes!

Oh, for three more hours in the day!

16 04 2009

With three extra hours, I would like to sleep. I've been on my computer more than usual lately, and it's been eating into my sleep time. But honestly, if I had 3 extra hours in the day, I would probably be on my computer anyway.

In defense of my vice: lifehacker and gizmodo

Gizmodo Covering Keg in Space

Lifehacker/Gizmodo is my vice. I like to escape from everyday life to read about robots, gadgets, and robots with gadgets. I don't think it's to the point where I should quit, but I do have to back off occasionally. Too much reading about productivity can be distracting.

My Tutu (grandmother) is someone I admire

Tutu (grandmother)
My Tutu is a kind, loyal and thoughtful friend. She is a loving mother and grandmother. She is a well-rounded person and she is genuinely happy with her life. I admire her most because I would like to look at my life the same way she does.
